PowerEdge R515 Not seeing WD SATA drives

Hello,

I am having issues getting the PowerEdge R515 server to see WD Blue 1.0TB (WD10EZEX) drives. I have installed Dell PERC H700 Integrated Firmware 12.3.0-0032,A02, as this according to the patch notes removes the non-dell certified blocks but hasn't resolved my issue.

There are no lights showing on the drives, I checked the slots with a Dell drive and it works. The RAID controller is not detecting any of these WD physical disks either.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Niall

Ctrl + R - The RAID BIOS does not see the drive either.

Is this the only drive installed in the server? When I built my power edge - I used several single drives (they were WD Black drives), but to get it to work, I had to install the single drives in the first few slots, then the RAID array (RAID 10) for the large storage. I don't know why it required that, but when the single drives were installed after the array, they weren't recognized.

Do you mean mixing SAS and SATA drives in the same array, or just using both types of drives on the same controller? Is this just something with Dell Perc cards? Every RAID controller I have used I've had no problem using both SAS and SATA drives simultaneously, just not within the same RAID array of course.

I meant the same array. Which perc do you have. Something like the 6 you would need to add the single drive as a single drive raid 0

edit - I dont know how I missed that you have the H700, buts its alot like the 6, add the drive as a single drive raid0.

AS for the drive not being detected or seemingly powered, do you have the interposer board installed in the carrier?

I have got it working now, I was mounting the drive in the Caddy using the 'SATAu' holes. I moved the drive down to the 'SAS' holes and it came up with no problems and I can see it in the RAID BIOS. Obviously the drive wasn't flush against the backplate using the other mounting holes.

Popatim, I do not think I have a interposer although I am unsure what this is for?

These drives are SATA not SAS.
