Hi Guys!

Building a new rig that will drive EIGHT - 24" displays @ 1920X1200 resolution.

Need a MB under $100 with at least 3 PCI-e slots @X4 (4 slots even better). Recommendations??

Need a processor no more than $130. Need 8 GB fast RAM. (is that enough?)

How much and which power supply do I need? Recommendations please?

Please help with your experienced advice! thank you.

What kind of display connections are you using, and what is your display output?

1GB of RAMs per display is likely enough ... unless it involves some kind of 3D modeling or gaming. Depending upon your display connections, a single card in 'Eyefinity' in addition to the two displays (one analog-one digital) pushed via a CPU graphics engine would do eight displays.

Using the new rig to trade currency pairs eg. USD/JPY, USD/EUR etc

I MAY buy (2) of these badboys to drive the (8) 24" displays:
http://www.amazon.com/DirectCU-1000MHz-Overclocked-Graphics-HD7970-DC2T-3GD5/dp/B00739TCH8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376926835&sr=8-1&keywords=HD7970-DC2T-3GD5

I already have the "box" and operating system. I'm a "minimalist" at heart so want no more than just what I need to put together a powerful cost-effective rig.

Those (8) displays will be mounted on this:

Can you help me pick right parts? TIA!

Thanks for your thoughtful reply. A couple of clarifications please:

1) Why an AMD processor rather than an Intel I-3 or I-5, for instance? Your choice of AMD is ok just that I'm curious as to your reasoning here?

2) Super fast RAM choice is great Thanks!

3) HDD: Is this a better deal:

Also, would my sys benefit from an SSD rather than a HDD?

4) That mainboard choice looks perfect for my needs and priced great. Good choice!

5) Video card: Thank you very much for this; you just saved me a ton of $! (I suspected my choice was overkill)

6) Wouldn't I need (8) displayport adapters to drive (8) displays?

Thanks man!

ps any other replies, choices, opinions greatly appreciated!

no the other 3 ports on this particular card work fine (its a feature of the sapphire flex series) you just need an active displayport adapter for 4 monitors from 1 card unless the displays have displayport input.

for the kind of work you want to do you really do not need an i5 and the fx is good for the money and better than an i3 anyway, it is not severely limited like a lot make out and will suit your needs perfectly fine.

that green drive is slower than the blue drive and better as storage.

oh yes of course I see now:

1 x Dual-Link DVI-I
1 x Single-Link DVI-D
1 x HDMI
1 x DisplayPort

that's terrific because saves me better than 25 bucks per adapter X 6!

Terrific job man, thanks much!

no worries mate, should be a good setup, if you want a bit of extra boot speed etc get a samsung 840 250GB and install windows on it and then use the 1TB western digital blue as storage.

also saved you more than 8x25 per adapter saved you 700 dollars in graphics cards lol.

Will the MB you choose for me allow easy overclocking? I have ZERO experience or knowledge about overclocking but like to squeeze as much juice from this rig as possible while maintaining stability. In my nature as a minimalist to get most bang for my buck.

Is overclocking this rig easy to do?

Yep. I'm just a flea on the elephants piggy backing a ride for $. ;)

With this rig I'll simultaneously track 8 separate pairs with my own proprietary algo's.

good general advice but what the heck does a "decent desk and back chair" mean in terms of spinal health? can buy a 10K chair BUT YOU"RE STILL SITTING 15 hrs a day! (yes i sit at least 15hrs/day)

regarding a standing desk..standing in one place for most of day is not healthy either. personally, i don't think there's any solution to our modern electronic dilemma. we sit & think..our great great grandparents were do'ers. those days are over i "fear"

yeah but its been shown also that with standing desks your a bit more active overall and more inclined to walk about and stuff but its also personal preference.

would like to get one myself thats a mix of the two, can be like jacked up to be a standing desk or lowered for seated work.

the key to "sitting" at a desk is to place the support a bit above the waist, about the rib cage for instance. that way the lower spine is not only not compressed but stretched under gravity. lot healthier for the spinal disks that they not be smashed. that's the rub, no one has created harness comfortable for long hours...not to mention easy to get into, and out

mauller,

Is it easy to overclock that system you put together for me? I don't want to push the outer boundary or anything like that however to maintain stability. (Not good to have your system crash with open positions ;) But I do want to squeeze the processor a bit ...

anyone??

Backtesting on large # symbols, charting & quote apps. That's about it this will be a dedicated rig for trading only. Nothing else not even personal use, gaming or web surfing.

What aftermarket cooler is best and runs silent?
