HI,

Sorry if I am posting in the wrong area. I have just recently started to have problems where my computer is crashing when I am playing some games. Some games work fine and it just started doing this.

Here is my PC spec:

Windows 7 64 bit
AMD phenom II X4 830
16526 MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT

The computer just goes to a black screen. Sometimes with the "crash sound".

I have run dxdiag and everything seems to be fine. Have the latest drivers and DX as well.

THanks in advance for any help!

you may want to clean install your graphics drivers using driver fusion.

uninstall current driver and dont restart.
run driver fusion nvidia driver cleaner and restart.
install newest driver as custom and only install display driver.

also grab hwmonitor and check your cpu and gpu temperatures.

Hello... typical 9800GT's were single slot video cards with a small fan attached... and thus run very hot with intensive video games... I suggest an upgrade of your video card... a low cost high performance option is a GTX460, and can be found on EBAY for under $80... you can run dual monitors or a TV at 1080P easy, and also play modern video game titles with much improved game play and visual candy.

If you strip the card down with a small screwdriver set and re past the gpu chip and clean the heatsink fins it will help, but its an old card and does run hot. You need to do the driver thing first tho.
The 460 IS a much better card, and runs cooler to boot.

Thanks for the response. The issue is this does not happen with all games. Iv played some high graphic games and they run just fine. Some of thegames that are crashing not even that high performance gams. I will try the clearing the graphics drivers with fusion and see if that helps.
