Hey guys,

So I actually just ordered my MSI 770GTX video card and I'm kinda worried about my PSU which is a cx500 builder series..some other specs are: i2500k (non-OC), ASrock p67 motherboard, 1TB HDD, 8GB RAM, no SSD or w/e. Oh and I won't be doing any overclock on the card itself other than the built in one.

My friend actually said that the system won't draw 500W but that I'm cutting it close and that he wouldn't 100% recommend it.

Thanks in advance!

The CX500 is a really great match for the GPU and CPU combo you have selected.

The GTX 770 draws around 200W full load at stock, and about 300W with some heavy overclocks.

The rest of your system will draw around 100W at the very most stock, potentially up to 150W with heavy CPU overclocks.

So even if you go for heavy overclocks on both your CPU and GPU, you'll only need a maximum of 450W, so a 500W PSU is exactly right.

The Corsair Builder series is an excellent line of PSUs which are very stable and perform well, even under very heavy load, so I would really not worry.

It should work just fine...BUT, I would not cut it that close with a tier 3 PSU with a $300+ GPU. I would upgrade my PSU before putting that card in my system..but that is up to you. I would go with your friend on this one.

thanks for the answers guys, but I thought the cx500 had enough AMP'S on the rails so I wasn't really worried about that. Could anyone confirm this?

Don't worry its not too tight. That configuration would run fine on that PSU. Just don't overclock the system to insane levels. Moderate overclocking on the CPU and GPU won't pose any problems.......

It will run, the card will draw roughly 20A, leaving 14amps/18amps for the rest of the cpu depending which CX500 version you have, but either will be cutting it close (your friend is right) but will be right to go.

The 3rd newer generation of the CX500 v3 80+ bronze puts out 38amps vs 34amp from the discontinued V2. The psu if it is v3 will just be labelled CX500 appose to older being labelled as CX500 v2. Just a little more head room of extra 4amps and more efficient being bronze rated if it is v3.

I would feel more comfortable with a 600/650 42/52 amps though.
