Some i5's are better (there are a lot of different i5's out there). Get a budget and list your uses, and we could help you make a better decision.

Well, you could get a 3470 IVY i5 for around that or a 3570k, 4670K (Haswell) for about 20 quid more. Just make sure you have a well rounded system. You dont want to put a nice CPU with a crap GPU and crap psu. Do you have other parts picked out yet?

ram is 8g cosair vengance and i havnt dicided on motherboard yet because i havent decided what cpu to get

Get the 3470 i5 then. That will work nice with that system. Get a h77 MOBO with it.

Or if you want to go haswell (1150) get the 4570. But get an h87 MOBO

No, it's not better at gaming, but it would be close with an overclock. It would be a lot cheaper tho. Up to you really, the fx 6300 will work for you needs and budget. Games don't use 6 cores yet.

with that chip though you definitely need a aftermarket cooler like the CM hyper 212 Evo and a decent board like the 990 fx gigabyte DS3 or a ASUS 990 fx
