Power supply issue

I've got a small problem with my power supply - its died, I have a 400W power supply from an old desktop that works, but the dead power supply is 500W.

Can I use the 400W power supply in the 500W's place?

How can we help you when you give us no extra information. What are the components of the computer? What are the power supply model numbers?

Maybe, but I'd need to know the specs of the system and the make and model of the power supply.

It all depends on what hardware you have installed. Can you post your full system specs please. (the GPU uses the most power on gaming machines usually)
