AMD fx-8350 with G. skill 32gb 2400mhz in an Asus Crosshair-V Formula-Z?

Hello everybody, first of all, thanks for your time and attention :)

I am going to run the AMD fx-8350 with the Asus Crosshair-V Formula-Z and I would like to install G. skill 32Gb 2400Mhz or maybe the 2133Mhz one..
I was wondering if that would work well, overclocking the CPU to 4.6 or 4.7 Ghz what do you think? Any recommendation?

Any time you completely max out the memory size, quantity, and speed you may want to use memory that is on the MB manufacturer's QVL. Some boards are picky when all memory slots are populated with the fastest memory allowable and the maximum amount.

Btw, what are you going to do with 32GB of memory?

Hey, thank you very much for your answer :) Well, I just want to make sure I won't have problems with any game, but if you say it is excessive, what do you think about 24 Gb 2400MHz or 2133MHz or even 1866MHz? or 32Gb 1866 Mhz? In your opinion which is the best way the PC will work?

P.D: I've seen you are a CPUs Master, so can you answer me this question please?: Do you think it is a good idea to overclock the AMD fx-8350 to 4.7Ghz with watercooling system? What is the max Ghz this CPU should be overclocked to?

If going 32GB of DRAM would suggest 1866 at most, haven't seen but 1 8350 that could run 32GB of 1866 DRAM at 1866..and that was purportedly at 1866, have seen many claim to, but for whatever reason they always fail to pop up a CPU-Z shot showing 32GB running at 1866....as far as 2133 have seen, I believe 2 showing them running 2133 w/ 16GB and those both had extremely high temps, so if going 32GB would suggest 1866 sticks with the thought may have to drop to 1600, AMD just doesn't have strong MCs (memory controllers)

And as far as QVLs go, it's a waste of time, the 'testing' is done at the mobo default, so while they may show a 32GB set of 2133 or 2400, that's fine, but all your sure of is it will run at 1333 - can see more on this here:

Today's games rarely use over 4GB of memory. They are most all 32 bit coded.

I always use 8GB for gaming machines. If you have other uses for the machine that can make use of more than that... well, then by all means go for the amount you need. But I doubt a serious gamer would want to have a bunch of other applications running in the background while gaming.

Hi, thank you very much for your answer, really helped me, I've been investigating a bit, and I think I will finally go for 16Gb 1866Mhz, and if I need more in the future (Which I think I won't), I'll go for 32gb.. so thanks a lot for your time!

Wow, that table shocked me... is that real?? Impressive...

I think I will finally go for 16Gb 1866Mhz just to be sure It keeps working well at 2560x1440 and with other applications at the background, thanks mate!!

How did this go? I'm looking at getting the same ram configeration and would really appreciate knowing how it turned out for you. I'm doing a lot of image, video, and music editing with a multi monitor set up and my 16 gig at 1600mhz set up is a bit slow but the processor (same 8-core Amd) is fine.

If you can, force the RAM to higher speeds. Just don't go too crazy, every mem controller has its limits. Use two sticks if you plan on ocing high.
