pci e power connectors

the pci e power connectors are 6 little sockets with 2 extra ones seperate
my graphics card (7970 ghz) needs a 6 pin and an 8 pin
do i just line up the extra little 2 pin with one of the 6 pins?

You have whats called a 6+2 pin connector that can be used in 6-pin and 8-pin sockets, For 6-pin you leave the 2 extras out and for 8-pin you add then to the side of the connector when you plug it in.
