Hola, I am TRYING to help my teenager who bought her own laptop recently (toshiba satellite C855D-S5320). It was awfully sluggish, so I had her buy some additional memory (compatible according to Toshiba).

Laptop would not recognize the new memory. Upon a small bit of research, it looked like updating the BIOS usually would help this problem.

I followed the directions to make a bootable disk, burned the .iso, plopped in the cd, and got this error:

PXE-E61 media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F exiting PXE ROM No bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key

((fyi--the directions advised me to "(1) Shut down the system while pressing the SHIFT key to completely power off. (2) Power on while pressing F2 to enter the BIOS Setup Menu. (3) Go to the Security tab and set the "Secure Boot" setting to "Disabled". (4) Go to the Advanced tab, enter "System Configuration" and set the Boot Mode to "CSM Boot." (5) Press F10 to save and exit. (6) Boot from the BIOS CD-ROM"

...which, I did!

Completely baffled what to do now, and I don't think my daughter has a recovery disk, etc. DOES ANYONE know how to help me get into the bios again to correct the order/make recovery disk?

REALLY appreciate the insight, cheers

Solution
You have to be real quick at pressing the F2 key to enter the bios once you power the laptop up. just keep tapping the F2 key untill it shows up.

You will then need to undo the settings Toshiba told you to do in the bios then save the settings before exiting the bios, windows 8 should then load as it did before.

Shaun o: based on what I read on the instructions, it seemed they were advising it to be safer to use a disk rather than flashing...I'm just trying to play it safe...I am not sure what went wrong! However, unless there is a way for me to create a recovery disk on my Vista computer to use on my daughter's Win8, I guess I have to call Toshiba. This laptop blows, btw! Any ideas for me Shaun?

I didn't look at the boot order, (I just followed the instructions like a fool)...now that I cannot ACCESS the BIOS, I realize I should have been a bit more fastidious...(good word)
