Hey guys, I'm new to this so forgive me if I'm going about this wrong..
So lets see, here's the setup I have.

ASUS m4a88td-v evo/usb3
Ati gigabyte hd 5770
Western Digital green caviar 1.5tb
4gb ddr3

I was given this computer because I was told it didn't work and that I could have it to fix, sell, whatever. It was wired up ALL wrong, so I redid that. Sure enough it works now. Great! Well I decided to run the wires neatly in the case so I wouldn't hit any of these fans inside and close it up.. Now the computer POSTS, but nothing comes up on the monitor. So, I have checked out the link "PERFORM THESE STEPS before posting about POST/boot/no video problems!" And went through these steps, still nothing. Any ideas? If it might be the video card, how can i test it manually, as i cant see the screen? Thanks, Mike

Oh, I got ya, to go around the normal connection for the monitor. Basically use another video port. I'll have to see if I can find a cord and something to plug it into because I believe the monitor only uses that old pin connection. I'll let you know what I get? But how come it just stopped working? I mean it literally was just working? Thanks again

i dont know, my motherboard did that once too, i forgot what setting i changed in the bios, and the video was not coming through my video card and i cleared the cmos and the computer would boot but no signal. so i plugged straight into the motherboard and it work and i set the main output to pci-express on the motherboard and it worked again.

i got scarred because i had just bought the motherboard and video card.

Hey man, I am already hooked up through the motherboard. D you want me to use the DVI imput on the motherboard, or hook up to the DVI imput on the graphics card?

Ok Nugget2,
I didn't have a DVD cable, so I hooked it to my big screen via HDMI, and it works. I am getting this message saying: reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. First off, is this the reason my monitor is not being detected? Second, can you walk me through the remedy?
Well, I hooked up to the monitor again, and no go. So I put the monitor on another computer and it works on that computer... So, it definitely is a problem detecting the monitor on the original computer. Can this be a settings issue or is that port fried?
Thanks again, Mike

no that is just telling you that it cant detect a hard drive or anything to boot an OS off of. pretty much means no hard drives or dvd drives are detected or plugged in.

and did you plug the tv into the motherboard or into the video card? also, if it works in the TV go into the BIOS and look for a setting called Primary Display" or primary vga. something along those lines. and change it to PCI-E (or pci express)

Thanks, I will do that now. Yes, I got into the bios earlier and it said no sata detected on any port, but I switched the wire around and it boots now and is detected... Weird...so it does work now, but just not to the old pin monitor connector. Yes, I hooked up the hdmi directly to the back of the video card. I will look for that option in the bios. Under which section will I find it in maybe, or do I just look in them all? Mike

Ok, I see an option for PCI/PnP settings. It is set to no right now for plug and play o/s
I also see an option for PCI/PCIe CLK status. (Enabled)
I've looked through the settings and that's all I can find on the PCI stuff, but there are SO many settings in here..lol. I am online if it is easier to PM me... whatever is easiest. thanks again, MIke

ok, so I found this...In bios setup you have: Primary Video Controller [GFX0-GPP-IGFX-PCI] Allows you to set the primary video controller. Configuration options: [GFX0-GPP-IGFX-PCI] [GPP-GFXO-IGFX-PCI] [PCI-GFXO-GPP-IGFX] [IGFX-GFXO-GPP-PCI]

It is set as [GFX0-GPP-IGFX-PCI] Hope this helps.... Mike

damn sorry the late reply, mom said i had to clean my room :( LOL

anyway, the primary video controller selection you chose is correct. (gfxo = 1st pci-e slot, gpp= 2nd pci-e slut, igfx= onboard graphics, pci= legacy pci slut) if plugging into the tv works. then that means that the computer works.

so if everything you have done has not worked then im sorry to say but your card is dead :(

Yes the computer works, I'm on it. Now I'm just curious how to get it to recognize the regular monitor port instead of the HDMI one. I don't always want to have this thing connected to my tv... Lol

is your video card the one with the batmobile cooler on it?

if you are, and you want to use the old VGA connecter. to need to use an adapter that goes from DVI to VGA but also supports both digital and analog signals. ive seen several people try to do this but they bought an adapter that only supports analog.

like this one, it supports digital and analog.

No, it's the overclock hd 5770 gigabyte. Does have a black cover and fan, but not the bat mobile one. The monitor was working from the old VGA port from the motherboard, but now it doesn't... I don't know if it isn't recognizing it or what. That's the problem. Thanks again man..
