Any glaring issues with this mid-range gaming build?

Hello all,

I'm a regular lurker but first time poster here on the forums. I've done quite a bit of research on parts for my new gaming build (which started out as a budget build but you can see below where it ended up lol), and just wanted any feedback as to potential issues with what I am trying to accomplish with the PC.

My goal is to conservatively overclock to about 4.2ghz, and play games including Skyrim, World of Warcraft, SWTOR, Diablo III, and Elder Scrolls Online when it comes out (may end up playing fps games too, just haven't in a while). I have never overclocked before, and I want to run a safe system that can reliably put out great graphics and smooth game play at 1080p resolution. I also want to leave the option open in the future to run two of the video card listed below, which is why I decided to go with a more expensive motherboard.

Case: Corsair 300R - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811139011
Power Supply: Corsair HX 750 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139010
Motherboard: Gigabyte Sniper M5 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128604
CPU: Intel i5 4670K - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116899
Video Card: Gigabyte GTX 760 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125466
CPU Cooling: Corsair H80i - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181031
Hard Drive:- WD 500gb - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136769
Case Fans: 2 Corsair AF140's (to mount to front and top of case, top pushing out, front pulling in) - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181028
OS: Windows 8 OEM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832416550

These are the parts that I already have and don't plan on upgrading unless necessary:
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16gb (2x8gb 1600) -http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233246
SSD: Intel 520 series 120gb (not sure exact model, at home sitting in a box right now)
Optical Drive: LG DVD Burner - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1N80MK1944
Monitor: LG IPS LED 23" - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/LG+-+23%26%2334%3B+IPS+LED+HD+Monitor/7979101.p?id=1218863186104&skuId=7979101
Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow Ultimate - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823114026
Mouse: Logitech G500s - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/G500s+Laser+Gaming+Mouse/8785513.p?id=1218893505716&skuId=8785513&st=g500s&cp=1&lp=1

I appreciate any input. I am pretty set on this build, unless there are issues with compatibility or if I will not be able to attain the desired function. Thank you in advance for any input!

While everything is OK, I'd suggest a couple of changes:
  • ■You can't really SLI/CF on a µATX board (the GPUs suffocate). Either go for a full ATX board, or drop to a 500W+ PSU. There's no real advantage to a gold PSU either. Suggestion: single-GPU or dual-GPU.
■You hit diminishing returns in MBs above about a GA-Z87X-D3H, ASRock Z87 Extreme4, or Asus Z87-A.
■Faster GPU - the 7970 just had massive price cuts.
■CLLCs are usually overpriced and underperform. A NH-D14 is cheaper and better performing.
■You don't really need extra fans.

Thank you for the input, I appreciate the response.

The only reason I was going for the gold PSU was it was more modular than the TX750 and only 10 dollars more. If it stays at that price until the time I'm ready to buy, I'll probably go with it. If not, I will definitely go with the TX version to save some cash.

I like your idea of the GA-Z87X-D3H mb, this one would be able to SLI two gtx 760's in the future correct? I think you've convinced me to go with that one, since I read a bit more about it after reading your response and I think it will handle anything I would get into in the future. Also, I want to go nvidia with this build as they tend to run World of Warcraft better from everything I've read.

I also appreciate your suggestion regarding CPU cooling, but I have never used liquid cooling and I really want to give it a shot. I could definitely save some money going another direction, but this time I think im sticking with liquid cooling.

Thanks again for the quick response!

Also - sorry for all the posting/deleting. I didn't know that someone else picked the response I deleted as the best answer, I thought I accidentally gave myself the credit lol. Anyways, thanks again!

for the HDD, you might as well go for the 1 tb version, it's about $10 for twice the disk space

might suggest the fractal r4 for cases..it's $10 more but is a great as well as quiet case from my experience (although 300r is also a fine case ive heard); regardless you may want to at least give it a look

Seriously considering the 770 now, but still about $100 increase over the 760 after the savings on the mb. Also going to lower it to one fan, just to push air out the top (mainly because I'm ocd and feel like more fans can't possibly hurt).

I think some people would definitely use the extra space, but I really don't think I would. but for $10, I guess its easier to pay the money and leave the extra open space than it would be to get a new hard drive and transfer everything over, assuming I didn't want to just add another one. Hmm, decisions decisions.

I'm also pretty set on the 300R case, I watched a very thorough review on youtube today and it seemed like a good buy. I've also had very good luck with Corsair products in the past.

Thanks for the input!
