Hi Everyone,

I am currently using a computer that features the Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 motherboard. I have installed 16 Gigs of DDR3 2133MHz RAM, in the form of 4 x 4 Gig Viper 3 Series, Black Mamba sticks.

The RAM voltage is manually set to 1.65 Volts in the BIOS, and I have deliberately over clocked the RAM to 2933MHz. Everything is running fine, however I am considering upgrading my RAM.

I am interested in the Corsair Vengeance Pro Series - 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3 2400MHz C9 RAM. Can I expect my motherboard to remain stable when running 2400MHz instead of 2133MHz RAM?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

The board official supports Support for DDR3 2133/1866/1600/1333/1066 MHz memory modules.

The problem is, why on earth are you overclocking, and upgrading your memory!? It will not benefit you at all in games, or anything else really(unless you're running an APU).

I'm sure it may do 2400 stable though, pointless as it is.

Yeah you may have to overclock it to 2400Mhz manually though. So you had your previous RAM running at 2933mhz?

Hi BMOSound,

My motherboard reports that the RAM is set to 2933MHz, at a Voltage of 1.65V, however when I run CPU-Z I see the following!

Can you tell me why there is a discrepancy between the MB and CPU-Z?

Kind Regards,

Davo

Hi Everyone,

FYI - here are my current RAM settings (as viewed from the MB BIOS)

It seems to me that that BIOS settings aren't being respected, or CPU-Z doesn't have the ability to measure above 1.5Volts, etc.

Any advice here will also be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo
