i have a 120 patriot pyro se with windows (Paid for it) on it, with a 500gb storage drive, q6600, asus p5w dh deluxe, and 4gb OCZ ram, 1GB GTX 460 in SLI

I just purchased a samsung 830 256gb, and i am waiting for my asus z87 deluxe and crucial balistix 2x8gb VLP ram to get in. still waiting for the best price of a 4670k or 4770k to complete my upgrade. (if you know a deal, please let me know, i do not leave near a microcenter, i wish they wouldn't have closed the one in santa clara)

The questions are, what is the best way to utilize 2 ssd drives in my new system, and which one is better for the OS. i think technically the older pyro se has faster read write, but I’m not sure that is all that matters. i think they are both MLC.

i was thinking of the following options:
1) Raid the drives (edit: raid is not worth it, loose space and in real world test it doesnt make it any faster)

2) put OS on 1 drive (which do you recommend) and install programs/games on the other ssd

3) just use the 830 for OS and programs/games and sell the 120gb

4) Use 830 for OS/programs and keep the 120gb for a "working drive"

My computer is used for:
No cable, so I use it to download shows and movies (I usually just download straight to the 500gb old drive) and I watch then delete, I don’t really keep anything once I watch it. EDIT: I DO NOT HAVE CABLE FOR A REASON, ALL MY DOWNLOADS ARE THROUGH ITUNES - LEGALLY

Occasional gaming, especially since getting the 460’s recently, maybe it’s also because I am waiting for the next gen systems. Either way I would want the game to run the best it can with my setup. I would like to get into 3d gaming, but with nvidia you have to pay for that driver “add-on” or buy their 3d kit (even when wanting to use it with a 3dtv)

i sometimes burn dvd's/blu rays from mkv/avi files using convertXtoDVD and DVDfab, both programs need a “working folder” to convert videos (side request, let me know what you use to burn mkv/avi files to blu ray or 3d blu ray) EDIT: PROGRAMS ARE PAID FOR.

and of course the usual email/forums/facebook/youtube

This computer is connected to my sony 55hx800 (I PAID FOR THE TV) through HDMI. So I guess I use it as a HTPC.

Thanks for all advice,

Carlos

p.s. - in my current q6600 system, i added the 256gb as a secondary programs drive. it currently has metro light, crysis 2 and dead island riptide installed on it with a few other programs. (ALL GAMES AND PROGRAMS WERE PAID FOR)

- don't know why people would assume i am not paying for anything, sorry if i made it sound that way.

Depends on what you want to do, but you might want to consider using the Patriot as a caching drive.
Seems too small for long-term storage (though that might work for you) and it could help overall performance depending on what you do.
I'd definitely use the 830 as the system drive though.

I wouldn't admit to downloading anything of that sort on here it's simply illegal just to download anything whether you keep it or not. Unless you have a legal copy or proof of purchase for the item. The only other rule of thumb here is if no body owns the rights to which video is it you happen to download. Which is highly unlikely. Otherwise I would have to say just use the 256GB don't take chances with old drives if you wait too long then you may lose files when they crap out.

P.S. Update your post and remove any unnecessary information. For your own sake.

Thanks for the advice, so would you say putting OS on the 256 samsung 830 and the game installs on the Patriot Pyro SE 120 would not be that beneficial?
