I'm looking to buy a laptop for about 50% gaming and 50% other uses. i was just wondering if the intel hd 4000 would effect my gaming performance? Also what is Intel HD 4000 good for?

Intel HD 4000 is integrated GPU, which is pretty week. It can do just easy tasks and save energy. If in your laptop is another (740M), you can at any time switch between these 2.
