Which one is better and why? Western Digital WD Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s vs Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s. Which is better performance wise. Thanks

I think they're both good. Though if you want the most performance possible on the WD side, you

ought to get a Caviar Black, not Blue. I think the Barracudas have a reputation for being very durable.

So to be honest, I'd just go with whichever is cheapest and still running at 7200 RPM.

I have to advise against Seagate. Of all the disks I used in previous and current builds, Seagate drives failed me where Samsung and WD never did. Their support was great, promptly replaced the drives with equal or better ones (we rarely get good warranty where I live). Not breaking up really beats a good replacement service, though.

I currently have a 2TB barracuda sitting on my desk waiting to be RMA'd.

Given they both are 7200rpm, have 64MB cache, and are 6.0GB/s the performance differences between them will be minimal.

As mentioned, go with ever one is the cheapest, but like Murissokah noted, I also avoid Seagate drives because of experiencing several failures...Western Digital, Samsung, Toshiba/Hitachi drives have shown me to be the most reliable...

I bought the Seagate 1TB Barracuda because it was a few dollars cheaper than WD 1TB Caviar Blue. But I couldn't get Windows 7 to recognize the drive, and even if it did, upon reboot the drive would "disappear" from BIOS detection. I use Acronis True Image for backup and cloning, and the same thing happened. I had a hard time recognizing the Seagate 1TB, and even when it was detected, Acronis restoring would hang and then report "drive missing" or something similar. I went out to buy a WD 1TB Caviar Blue instead and never had problem for months now.

I returned the Seagate drive for RMA, complaining that it has intermittent detection with BIOS. Got my replacement drive, and the problem still exists. It could be my motherboard or BIOS, but then the Western Digital drive didn't show any problems. I put up my Seagate 1TB for cheap sale on second-hand bargain websites and nobody wants it.
