Moving to college, should I take apart my gaming rig, or just take it intact?

I'm moving to college in a couple days. Driving there with my parents, not by plane. So I'm wondering, should I take apart the computer? Or just take it intact?

I don't want to risk damaging the mobo or anything, but I'm new to transporting big builds.

Thanks in advance for replies :)

Make sure you transport the case with the motherboard on the bottom, so the GPU or the huge CPU cooler if you have one won't rip apart the motherboard if you hit a bump in the road
taking it apart's your safest bet. besides, it's a good opportunity to do a proper dusting/cleaning.

otherwise pack it full of foamy material such as packing-beans etc and lay it down with the mobo horizontal. the most common sources of damage come from the GPU and the CPU heatsink (unless you're using an all-in-one liquid loop). those are heavy things protruding from the mobo and can shake around when the road gets bumpy.

of course, if you're running a custom water loop, take it apart, or at least drain all the water out :)

maybe make sure you dont throw everything else in the car on top of it

im doing the same thing tomorrow..and i plan to have it sitting board-face up on a cushion at the top of the trunk with nothing heavier on it than the keyboard

other than that..try not to race people over speedbumps? :)
