I just got a new Netgear DOCSIS 3.0 11-N Data Gateway, but every hour or two the connection for wireless and wired devices and computers just drop. My internet ISP says they are able to ping my modem, but they cant see any devices connected to it, even though my desktop is plugged right into it. My computer will say its connected to the modem but cant get though to the internet for no reason. I factory reset it and it still does it. The only way I get to modem to start working again after it does it is that I have to disable my motherboards internet port and then re-enable it. All the lights on the modem are what they are suppose to be, none flashing in sync and the ones that should be off are off. Nothing changes, it just happens and I really need internet for college. If it makes a difference, my computer says I have a 1Gbs to my modem and then my modem has a 25Mbs to the outside internet. Please help :(

Solution

Do not touch the modem at all!!! I asked you to set your IP address on your COMPUTER to a static IP address. Try one outside of the DHCP pool.

Tried using another wire? Try a rolling ping actually try two ping google.com -t and ping 173.194.37.142 -t after disabling the renabling your ethernet connection.....look for what drops first or if they do simultaneously......

I am unable to find a static IP option on this particular modem.
after disabling and re-enabling my internet connection I get internet without it being dropped, but I have to do this every time I turn on my computer.

EDIT
Recently the modem no longer drops the internet, but whenever I connect a device, whether wireless or wired, I have to disconnect the wired internet port and then re-enable it on my main computer for the internet to get to any device, wired or wireless. I have to do this every time it is booted. It is the only wired computer, so is it possible it is my computers fault?

Making my computer have a static IP appears to have fixed all my issues with the modem. Even after restarting my computer, I was instantly connected to the internet when the desktop appeared unlike earlier. Thanks for the help!
