i have a western digital my passport with usb 3.0 and the thing is, it just stop working. every time i plug it in, the system reads the drive very slowly, and everytime i try to right click the drive, the window stops responding..but at the safety remove option on the task bar, it can properly detect that the hard drive is WD My Passport 0730..i know that defective hard drives are to be replaced right away, but i badly need the files and im trying to recover them..actually i want to even just format the drive and just recover the files after, but unfortunately, any softwares i try to detect the drive and format it, the app just closes or stops responding...

please i really need help..those files are just so important..

thank you very much guys...

Do NOT format your hard drive. You'll lose everything.
Have a look on the Western Digital web site to see if there are any utilities you can run on the drive to see what the problem is.

thanks bro..but i already did that, and their apps couldn't detect the drive, when they try, they just stops responding..actually this already happened once with my other portable harddrive, and the solution that i did was formatting the drive, and used recovery software, and it works..unfortunately this current case, the drive can't be formatted at all..

but thanks for the help..^_^

How about you take the drive out of the WD case and try it with another case or HD adapter. I have heard of some drives, not sure if WD, is one that require some special firmware on the interface board to connect to a PC. Change the data cable from the Passport to the PC. It may not be getting the proper voltage.

i also thought that the voltage it receives is the problem, so i actually tried to open the WD Passport, and i think it requires other interface/connector to be able to connect to pc other than its usb 3.0 port, i think it has a 12pin and a 4pin on the other side, and between them is the usb 3.0 port..

by the way, i actually tried to plug it in on our t.v with usb support, and it actually works..it can detect the drive and see the contents, as if the drive working properly..so i think the problem now is that when you try to plug it in into a pc, it doesn't work at all..

i think the drive can be fixed..i really hope so...

thanks again bro...^_^
