so I built my first pc and its been running good for acouple of months... this morning when I tried to turn it on it just keept going on and off like a christmas light bulb. I tried to narrow down the problem, and I found out that it happens when i have one of the power cable connected to the mobo (8pin). my power supply comes with 3 cables and I hooked them all up to the mobo. one 8-pin, another is also 8-pin but it its split into sets of 4, and the 24-pin. the problem seems to occur when I have the 8-pin plugged in (not the one in sets of 4).

these are my specs:
mobo: rampage iv extreme
power: thermaltake toughpower grand 1200w
cpu: i7 3930k
gpu geforce gtx 690

I have the cpu and gpu custom watercooled and im controling the fans and pump with a lamptron controler. I have a seperate fan for the cpu conected to the mobo.

the 8pin power is sitting in a tight space and it is kinda bent but to me it didn't seem like it would cause a problem.

please help

Solution
I looked up your psu and saw that it has both a 4+4 as well as an 8 for cpu. As long as you didn't use a 6+2 you'll be fine. You might want to fix the reset button for future use - having to move the case, etc. can be a pain.

Glad it worked out for you. Please mark the thread as solved.

mark the 8pin is all one piece. I got some 6+2 but those are wires that connect to the gpu and the power supply ( the power supply has a bunch of connectors on it but those wirescan be removed) the three wires I was talking about are permanent on the power supply.

but I found the problem. on the front of my pc the reset button was being held down by the front mask of the case lol... I just disconected the button from my mobo... its better this way since I have accidently presed the reset button several times in the past. now if I need to reset it ill just press the other reset button in the back of the pc

thanks mark for the fast reply :D
