Fan Splitter Question - Power

I just bought this

My question is to me it seems as if it has two power options on it? You could either plug in one to the motherboard and it will power all the fans. Or could I just use the second option and get power from the psu? Am I missing something here? Take a look at the link to me it looks like I have two power options or do I need to both use the MB pin and the psu?

your answer is completely wrong. Of the two connectors shown in the picture the bigger one (molex) will power the 4 fans that are plugged in. The small one should be plugged into the motherboard. It will read fan rpm and control fan speed based on temps inside the case, depending on which 4 pin fan header he plugs it into. If he uses the fan header for the cpu it will throttle the fans based on the temp of the cpu. If it is plugged into any other 4 pin fan header it will be controlled by the inboard temp sensors. you will not get power...

the yellow and blue wire are for fan rpm and to throttle the speed of the fan.

the small plug with a yellow and blue wire (fan plug) gets plugged into the motherboard wherever there is a 4 pin fan header (you will not get power from this), it will allow the motherboard to see fan rpm and throttle the fans according to temps inside the case. if you plug it into the cpu fan header it will throttle the fans according to the cpu temps. to power the fans you have to plug in the bigger plug (molex) into the powersupply.

Because it is a 1 to 4 splitter I believe you will need to plug both the 4 pin molex in and the one which connects to the motherboard. The 4 pin going into the board tells all the fans to mimic your cpu fan, but a 4 pin board connector only has enough power for 2 pans, hence the 4 pin molex. The molex connection is probably only going to two of those connections for power.
