Re-installing Windows with new hardware

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me out here, as storage is not my area of expertise. Basically, I'm currently using a magnetic drive as my OS drive, and it has all my data on it. I just got a new mobo, processor and SSD and figured it'd be a good time to switch to the SSD as my boot drive. What I'm wondering is, after I've got Windows installed on the SSD, will that OS be able to read the files on my magnetic drive even though a separate copy of Windows (installed with the old hardware configuration) is on it? Or do I need to back up that data and wipe the magnetic drive before I can just use it for storage?
Thanks for any suggestions.

It has worked everytime for me in the past. After you have windows loaded and all the board drivers installed, install the older drive in another sata port, boot up and it should be accessible.
