Hi

My apologies in advance if this is a simple or already asked question. I couldn't quite find the answer I was looking for.

I've recently purchased a new Motherboard and CPU, and a new copy of Windows 7. I want to replace my old MB and CPU and install Windows 7 and reuse (after reformatting) my 2 HDDs which are currently in a Raid 0 config. Basically I'm aiming to start from scratch again as I've got a lot of stuff everywhere and it's nice to just start again sometimes! Also want to get away from the Raid 0 config :)

I know how to install these all physically and I understand a new windows install is a complete data wipe, but I'm a little unsure about the reformatting of the HDDs.
I currently have 2x 500GB HDDs in Raid 0 (3 partitions approx 15%, 70%, 15%) and wanting to clear these out/remove the raid 0, and reuse them on my new MB with a brand new Windows 7 install WITHOUT a raid config and partitioned probably in the same manner as mentioned previously.
In regards to the 2 HDDs how do I reformat them having been in a raid 0 config? Is it any different and if so, how? Do I do this during setup of my new system or do I need to "clean" them all up completely before plugging them into the new system?

I'm a little weary of just giving this a go without any advice so any help is very much appreciated! :)

Cheers

Solution
Simple, On the system you used to setup the raid0.
.. Boot to Raid bios and remove the member drives. That will "Kill" all partitions on the drive and you can now use them as two separate drives. Windows install will allow you to repartition the individual drives and will format the partition selected for the oS.

Hi

Thanks very much for the quick reply! Sounds simple enough :)

So by removing the raid on my existing PC via the Raid Bios this will then make me "lose" my current data as the system will no longer be looking for x piece of data from both drives? If so, I will obviously do this as the last thing before powering down for the last time and replacing the parts?

Cheers :)

If you want to split the two drives (Remove Raid0) into Drive0 and a Drive1, You will LOSE all data, and must first back up all your DATA/Files.

Side comment, You may or may not be able to move the two Raid0 drives to the New MB - Depends on the Raid controller used to create the raid0 setup.
