I recently built a computer for a friend and he ordered the wrong hard drive : he ordered a seagate backup external hard drive... So we took it out of its enclosure and used it as a normal 2.5 inch hard drive. We then installed windows, however it now runs sluggish and has no audio it won't detect any devices in any of the jacks (front and back), even after several driver updates. We have tried different devices which do not work - also in device manager there is an exclamation mark next the the harddrive. Could this be down to the fact the hard drive was an external one? Motherboard: asrock 990fx extreme 3, processor: fx 8350, ram: corsair vengeance. Gtx 660

" in device manager there is an exclamation mark next the harddrive"

External HDD's may well have a reduced capacity to live as a boot device inside the pc, after all, it wasn't intended for this (not to say it won't work for some models).

Have you installed all the correct motherboard-specific drivers e.g. chipset, etc. ? This can be very critical that you do this since Windows (normally) only provides generic equivalents that won't always function fully.
