Ok so my specs look like this :
Processor : i5 3570k
gpu: asus gtx 660
motherboard: asrock z77 pro3
ssd : samsung 120gb
hdd: 1tb seagate
cpu cooler : coolermaster 212 evo
ram: crucial 8gb ram
case: coolermaster haf 912
psu: corsair 600m modular series power supply

After i assembled the computer and wired it correctly (i think) i powered it on only to find the only light that came on was on the graphics card nothing else. After checking everything several times i ended up with the same result about 4 times. I brought it into a professional computer technician then and asked him to wire it correctly. The next day the technician told me that after wiring and testing it he decided my brand new motherboard (all parts from amazon) wasn't taking any power from my psu. He said this could have been due to static when putting the computer together (even though i was working on a wooden surface i had no static band) or the board touching metal when i put it in the case causing it to fuse. So i straight away took his advice and went onto amazon and am having the motherboard replaced with a brand new one. My question after all this is should i have kept trying to fix the board (even though i've no experience with computer hardware, im more softwareyy) or have i done the right thing replacing it. What if power still doesn't go to the board . I'm also letting the technician put it back together this time. Have i done the right thing please help i spent over 1000 euro on this machine :(.

Make sure the 24 pin connector is connected and the 4 pin (sometimes 8 pin) connector is also connected. There should be a 5V LED on the motherboard somewhere. That is usually the first sign that there is no power to the board.

Possibly the power supply, I would just double check that it is all connected properly.

i RMA'd it there sending me a replacement of the exact same motherboard. Well that's two opinions with the same answer which is reassuring enough for me. Say if power didn't go to this motherboard like the last one, would it be the psu then ?
