Hey guys, I'm looking to maybe upgrade my graphics card. The card that I currently have installed is the Radeon HD 6870 1GB GDDR5. Now don't get me wrong, I can run everything I play on high with this card i.e. SWTOR, BF3, Resi 6 etc but with some new games coming out like ESO and BF4 I'm maybe looking for an upgrade that will keep good solid performance when playing these. I'm honestly not sure about budget but in the next month I'm looking at probably having about £250. Now I wasn't planning on spending it all on a new GPU so was really just looking for some opinions. Would the 7790 series be a possible upgrade? I have seen a 7790 1GB for £100 but would that be an upgrade or is the 6870 a better card? I've also seen the 7870 2gb for £150 and wondering if its worth the upgrade? Thanks for any help guys!

Solution
I wouldn't bother with the 7790, it performs only slightly better than the 6870 in most games, and that performance difference is not worth the money. Something like a 7870/7950 or GTX 760 would be a much better choice in terms of value and performance gained vs. a 6870.

Well that's really why I'm asking. Would an upgrade be worth it? I'm really looking for something that will play the future games such as Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs and The Elder Scrolls Online at a high quality(maybe not ultra etc) and still be viable for any other future games. I don't want to wait for the release of these games to find that the 6870 will only play them at medium or lower or perform poorly overall. While I realize I can pay big money to get a monster card, I'm really looking for something that will play these games with ease without breaking my bank. The one I have been looking at is the AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB GDDR5 and wondering if anyone has any comments on that one?

I currently have an Intel Core i5 3570k@3.40 ghz with 16GB DDR3.

well, that graphics card should do great for a while! i would say at least 2 years! and by then, new graphics cards will be out and then you won't have to upgrade anything.

that card should run ultra/max on MOST games, and high on the rest, for a while.
i would wait to upgrade until a game comes out that lags on high.
the card isn't really that old.

When your talking about the card aidanklenk do you mean the one I already have installed or the 7870?

Sorry I just saw the second answer their. So do you think the 7870 would be a worth while upgrade supernova?
