I would say go with the 7870 it's around the same price as a GTX 660 and supposedly performs a bit better according to Tom's Hardware's Article:http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-4.html
It even includes 2 free games. Rumor is that AMD will add big AAA title games to their list for people to redeem during the 4th quarter. Games such as Battlefield 4, Watchdogs, etc.

Unless he really wants the Nvidia features I would recommend a 7950 instead. 7950 are similar in performance to the GTX 760 and if you overclock the 7950 you would beat a GTX 760 overclocked. Besides 7950's are only 220 dollars right now.

Get the GTX 660, 660 Ti, or 760 so you can enable PhysX in Metro Last Light, Planetside 2, or the upcoming Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham Origins.

TechPowerUp uses a full 18 gaming benchmarks, much more than any other review site. They use the latest drivers for all cards on the list, and they are the leading review site on the web. They also are the inventors of the widely used GPU-Z graphic card utility and are as trustworthy as they come.

yeah, i just looked at their benchies for crysis 3, battlefield 3, bioshock, farcry 3 and skyrim and they have the 7970ghz beating 680/770 by 2-5fps in all those games. i dont know what games they have that are favoring nvidia, like call of jaurez running 180fps on a 680 vs 150fps on a 7970ghz, or a gtx580 nearly matching a 7970 in black ops 2???..... pointlessly benchmarking games like this are skewing the end aggregate result. thats the problem with this particular aggregate.

It also depends on the exact part of the game they are benchmarking. but thats how benchmarking is, you can't test every part of every game with every possible hardware config. but a few portions across a few games gives you a good idea of performance, particularly if you look across multiple sites. You can go to 3 different sites benching 680 vs 7970 and get a different result on each site as they are using different hardware setup, in game details, resolution, control panel settings and possibly benchmarking different areas/levels of a game etc. If you truly want to get the best idea of what is going on, you look at a multitude of sites, look at the benchmarks for the resolution your gaming, and throw away results that are obscure to the norm (like teksyndicate.)

Some say the 760 is the same price as the 660ti, but where im from its considerably more expensive. the 660ti performs similarly to the 7950, and can be had at a good price as its a clearance model. Otherwise , if its the same price in your region, the 760 is faster than both 7950 and 660ti.

I was referring to the graphics card in the original post, the Asus 660 but not the 660 TI. I also did a quick search on newegg for the 760 and found that there are currently no sales or rebates for that card. I was thinking about getting the 7950 by MSI but I heard that MSI has horrible support and iffy quality. This is the model that I am referring to: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127737

You could either wait for the sapphire 7950 dual x to go back in stock on newegg so you can get a 7950 for only 10 bucks more than the GTX 660, or you can just get a 7870 or GTX 660. I would still say the 7870 because according to tom's hardware article it's a bit faster than the GTX 660. Unless you really want those Nvidia features I would recommend going with a 7950 or a 7870.

The Sapphire is back on sale, I might order it tonight. I just received my first part - the 600watt corsair PSU. However, the delivery man THREW THE THING OVER THE FENCE AND INTO MY BACKYARD! I was home all day sitting in the living room, they never knocked. I don't want ontrac to throw my parts over the fence again, especially my CPU and GPU!

So would this be a good build, switched the OP's case and video card.
