I'm trying to connect my Asus N53S running windows 7 to a viewsonic tv through HDMI. I'm going to Control panel > Hardware and Sound > Connect to an external display. When I click "detect" it says that no other displays are detected.
If I click the first drop down menu I get options for either my NVIDIA GT540M or Inter(R) HD Graphics 3000. Selecting either option I am only given the choice of VGA connection. HDMI never comes up as an option.

HDMI is also not listed under my audio devices.

I have updated all my audio and graphics drivers and rebooted several times with no success. Any ideas of what else I could try?

The manual doesn't say anything about BIOS. Fn+F8 briefly shows a picture of my laptop which says LCD underneath it. Any other ideas?

The drivers listed are:
Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M

Both drivers have been updated to the latest versions.

The link you posted had the solution. Turned out the issue was that the port was sitting to deep inside that laptop so that the HDMI cord wasn't plugging all the way in. Once I modified the HDMI cable I was able to plug it in all the way worked. Thanks so much for your help :)

Sounds interesting. I must check this right away when I get home to my TV. I have been fighting long time to get the picture from Asus X53T laptop to 42" Sony LCD-TV properly. The picture starts first OK, but after a couple of minutes watching the colors go wild to give pink-orange-turquoise. No matter what program or plain Windows logo.

I have changed the HDMI-cable. I have updated Graphic drivers. The laptop runs Windows 7 with all upgrades carried out.

When using VGA-ports in laptop and TV everything works properly.

I'll report here if my problem is also this kind of physical connector problem.
