May have too much thermal compound, what kind did you use? If new and it's AS it takes a few days to cure, those temps aren't all that out of control for Prime

That's why i asked about the cpu, i had a hunch it was a haswell. The haswell cpus tend to get very warm so 73 is well within the range of normal temps for a 4770 especially if you are running the new prime with avx. But even if it's the old non-AVX prime95. Don't worry about it, if prime gets it to 73, normal daily use apps will not get it past 55-60. Haswell just runs hot.

No need to exchange the cpu, the temp is not that high. Haswell runs hot, at higher overclock we get to 90-95 degrees in prime. Even 100 but then it starts to throttle. Still, the 4770 even at stock is a monster cpu. And if you use the turbo multi to oc it to 3.9 then you will not have problems in any app.
