Any help in relation would be greatly appreciated.

okay so i got cold called by someone claiming to be from microsoft and to put a long story short they got into my system and I'm getting warning messages saying ' all files will be deleted' 'please renew your licence' 'youve been hit by a stuxnet virus' i googled it and didn't look to good so i decided i would just re install my windows 7 home premium OS.

I couldn't find my disk so i rang my uncle (techy kinda guy) and asked would he have a spare disk so i could move on from this , he said his IT guy would do it all for me free of charge , which was a relief after i was quoted 150euro atleast by several stores(including the store i purchased from) i have my product key its just no disk.

anyway while i was on the phone to the store (of which i purchased ) i explained my situation and asked would it be okay to use a different disk but MY product key(located on the bottom of my laptop as it came pre-installed) he said if it was done this way i would separately have to install my drives again??? and that my computer would automatically lock itself after a set time period

i really don't know what or who to believe at this stage and just want my laptop working(SAFELY) regardless of my files.

don't speak to the store you bought it from, they have no idea what they are doing.

ANY windows disk will work to install windows 7 on your system and the uncles IT friend will probably have it. He will use his own original Microsoft disk and use your product key to activate the windows copy.

However, you will lost all your files and data, unless you get the IT guy to back them up for you.

Also 150 is WAYYY to much to reinstall windows, they are taking advantage of you :p.

taking into account it was reinstalled with my OEM licence ?

or can i just run a windows update and it will download all the drivers that were already pre-installed ?

well usually, depending on your pc, most drivers will be installed with windows, but you might need to install a couple drivers. It doesn't take too much time, maybe 15 minutes max. Plus, if the IT guys does it for you he's probably going to install the drivers, since its really a part of installing windows. Also there are no SSD drivers, most likely, you will have to install the vga driver and wifi.

IF the IT guys know what he is doing, he will essentialy deal with everything. You just need to install your own programs, such as MS word and games and such.
