Which processor for ASUS M2N68 AM plus?

Hi guys,

I have this motherboard and currently have AMD Phenom II X2 550. I wanted to upgrade to a good quad core processor. Will i5 work on this one? I have a 450W PSU with 18A on 12V. The board "Supports AM2+ CPU", says so on the box. The box also has a Phenom X4 & FX sticker on it, which means it supports them? Please tell me a best quad core upgrade, I'm confused!

no it does not only AM2+ chips, not Intel, it does not indicate anything about intel

It supports AM2+ and AM3 CPUs. These are AMD CPUs, not Intel. It will not support the i5. The best CPU you can get for gaming is probably the Phenom II x4 965. Hope this helps.

The Phenom II X4 945 is supported and it should be a nice upgrade from your dual core Phenom.
Make sure you update to the latest BIOS version which is 1804.

Just to clarify for the OP, do not get the six core phenom for gaming. Get the 4 core phenom II x4. Preferably the 965 if you can.

I should probably add that I run this with radeon HD 7750 gddr5 card. I hope the combined power consumption does not exceed the PSU output.

Your PSU is fine. I would stay away from the "T" thuban chips. The 945 is probably the best then. That being said, even though it does not say it the 965 should work.
