Hello everyone,

I’m looking to buy this card and I’ve noticed that there are 2 revisions of this product.

Rev. 1: http://ca.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4..." target="_blank">

Rev. 2: http://ca.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4..." target="_blank">

When comparing the two revisions on Gigabyte’s website it shows rev. 1 as having Dual Link DVI-I, whereas rev. 2 shows just DVI-I (this seems like a typo as I doubt they would downgrade their I/O).

Another difference is the change from one 6 and one 8 pin power connector on rev. 1 to two 8 pin on rev. 2.

The product descriptions are identical save for rev. 2 stating “8+2 phase VRM power design”, but I have no idea what this means.

I’ve done some searching for opinions but to no avail. Would anyone be able to shed some light on these differences (and possibly any that Gigabyte failed to mention) and any impact they may have?

I'm very interested because currently I only have access to revision 1, but I'm a little suspicious that they've come out with a new revision so soon after releasing the first one, and I don't want to buy a card that had 'issues'.

Much appreciated.

There is apparently no performance difference between the two, according to the review on HardOCP. Rev. 2 has an all metal shroud versus plastic on the Rev. 1. Personally I would want the extra power available through the 8+8 pins and the metal shroud, but if the Rev. 2 is not available, then I wouldn't be concerned at all.

Thank you 17seconds,

Probably a dumb question but, in what situations would the extra power provided by those 2 pins prove beneficial?

Also, I can’t seem to locate that review on HardOCP. Would you mind linking it for me?

Regards.

Its product page shows the card comes with DVI-I and DVI-D interfaces. no difference to version 1. The difference between the 2 version is the number of power phases which can benefit the overclocking potential.

I have wondered this as well. I'm going to sli two of these but have been hesitant with a revision coming out so quickly. I know with the 2gb version the shroud changed but from the looks of it from the Gigabyte website, the 4gb does not change (it is the same as rev2.0 on the 2gb model). The dual 8 pin does sound nice for some OC though. Dday76, if you find the rev2.0 model somewhere be sure to let me know! :)
