Hi all,
Don't mean to sound stupid, but what can a PC be used for?

Im looking for a long list of basic to advanced uses of a computer...

My PC is sufficent and fast enough to run any application so please suggest as many things as you can think of!!

Many thanks in advance :)

This sounds suspiciously like a school assignment. A good way to research it would be to go to an Office Depot or Best Buy and browse through all their different software titles. Each one performs some function that could be carried out on a desktop PC. Most (but not all) could also be run on a laptop, although some would perform relatively poorly there.

Many thanks for that.
Ive just finished designing my first build, just in the process of ordering the parts.
I know about word processing, internet, gaming, video rendering, CAD, Music/Movies/Images etc, just want to see what else I can use a high end PC for, I dont want to be building an overkill PC and never really utilize what im putting into it...

Well, you mentioned gaming, and that is actually one of the most demanding things you can do on a PC, particularly as far as graphics are concerned.
Video rendering and CAD can be pretty heavy on the CPU, but either may also be accelerated by some graphics cards. If you already know what software you'll be using for these tasks, check their manuals to see if they favor AMD or nVidia for accelerating their work. That should affect your choice of graphics card. There is a sticky at the top of the new builds forum on how to ask for new build advice. Filling out the template in it will provide us the information we need to make the most relevant suggestions for you.

I know this, I would like to know if there is more I can do with my PC to make the most of it...
In fact, my build is very similar to yours...

Case: Corsair 350D
Mobo: ASUS Maximus V Gene
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80i
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB)
SSD: Samsung 240 Pro 128GB
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200rpm
GPU: EVGA GTX760
PSU: Corsair HX650 Modular
Fan Controller: Akasa FC.6

Well, you probably wouldn't mine bitcoins with it. GPU mining is about done with all the ASIC miners coming online, and nVidia cards can't mine worth poo (an HD6670 outmines a GTX650Ti).
For when you aren't using it (or even if you are, depending on the settings) you could run a distributed computing client like Folding@Home (Tom's has a group, although the number escapes me atm) which contributes to research. There are many other similar projects; SETI@Home is another well-known project.
