Hello
ive got a 7870 powercolormyst gpu for my pc. Today, i updated my gpu drives using amd website to catylst 13.4 and never updated it beforew that since i bought the gpu
Immediately after installing the updates, when i played shogun 2 the temps went fto 75c and before the update it would max to 65. Now it goes to about 78ish max and i havnt done anything else to my pc. Also i noticed that now, when i use my gpu and its under load, there is a faint scrreching/whirling sound and i opeened the pc to see if there was anything lose but evberything seems fine.
So any ideas, why after the update my gpu for no reason has higher temps
Ty in advance

75 is not high I would be more worried that you have to have the fan flat out to keep that temp. If you are still running the overclock then reduce it until you are happy with your temps and fan speed. 1175 is the core which is very high and the 1600 is memory which is standard. I strongly suggest you reduce the core clock The 7970 Turbo runs at 1180.
Your card should be running at 925-975 at stock as far as I can tell.

oh, so is there a way to decrease the temps  , because before i oced my 7870 to 1175, 1600 but havnt increased it using msi. But is there a way to see if its making it work faster or not and i dont think my heatsink is dirty because the temp increased since updating the gpu and wasnt overtime. It was suddenlyt after the update. everything else is the same

Driver updates usually mean optimizations for certain games and general increases of other games by virtue of other more general optimizations, Its pretty standard.
Its good to see that you are monitoring your temps, too many people don't bother then wonder why things are going wrong.
78 is high but nothing drastic, it wont kill the card. Is the cooling fan running faster ?

How did you select your drivers ? The thing is the Myst card is a Tahiti chip from the 79 series of cards and not actually a Pitcairn chip from the 78 series.
I'm not sure how the drivers work for this card, is it possible you have installed 78 series drivers which have a faster core clock than the 79 series ?

mauller, i cant change my vcore cause what is that? and how do i do it

mactroinix, the fan is still the same since i set it to 100% after 70C before updates but it never use to go that high when playing a game like shogun 2.
i dont know what updates to get cause i heard as well that 7870 myst is a taihiti which is the like a 7930 but i got the 7800 series updates, but it updated fine. just worried lol that a simple update would raise temps like 10c at least..

i used msi afterburner,
and this was way before updating and i couldnt change voltage , so i put 20%+ power and 1175 and 1600, cant remember the names but the 1175 comes first then 1600. With these settings i would get 65c max on shogun 2 but after updates rises till at leas 75c

If its bothering you then just change the drivers back to what you had and wait for the next release and try those.
I hardly ever update drivers unless there is something new in the new ones that I feel is a must have. A few FPS extra in some games is nether here nor there as far as I am concerned. 12.4 I think I am on at the moment. (cant check using different PC)

dont know what drivers i had before.. cause it was from stock. Dont know what to do :( cause if the update IS making the gpu perform better and making it heat more, then the increase in temp is fine but im not sure if that is the case . worried that 75c is high and i genuienly think that heat kills components?
