I am thinking about upgrading my Acer Aspire One's hard drive with a Samsung 840 SSD. I know that the Pro version is faster and that it's probably the best SSD out there at the moment, but will that make a difference on the Aspire? Will it be able to actually make use of the higher speed or will it somehow limit it, therefore making the standard 840 a better choice?

Solution
unless your aspire1 has a sata3 port (vaires by model) then you might want to just get the cheapest ssd you can find as you will only get about 250mb/s
sequential read/write speeds on sata2

Does this mean that I wouldn't see any improve in performance if I get the Pro version?

I must say this looks very interesting, I think I might go for this one :)

Mine is SATA-III. Some users seem to suggest that I won't see any difference on a netbook, but having SATA-III wouldn't I see an improvement getting an Evo rather than the standard 840? If I understand correctly, the standard 840 wouldn't make use of the added performance coming from SATA-III, which the Evo would.

You are correct, please chose the most useful answer. The difference between the EVO and standard is minimal anyways.

But you said before that the Evo is virtually as fast as the Pro :D

Anyway, I will get the Evo, maybe one day I will use it on another machine anyways.

Sorry, I meant the price of the two are very similar.

:D
