Right, so I just purchased an Asus GTX 760, and it won't run.
I spoke to my computer manufacturer and they said it would be fine.

Basically, when I installed it and set it up, turned on the pc, and got to the stage where it gives the option for pressing f9, f12 or del for bios ect and then froze.

I have a gigabyte z77 DS 3H, an I5 3570k and a 500 watt power supply, along with an ssd, a hdd and 8gb of 1600 MHz ram.

Any ideas why it won't work?

Given that it doesn't get past the POST screen I don't think that is relevant.

Its possible you have a weak 500w? Its less about W and more about amperage. I can't recall what amperage the 760 requires.

Are both gpu power plugs connected? Only 1 would likely allow it to POST but then cause a system lock. Its possible the GPU is faulty as well if your old gpu still works.

If at all possible never used molex->6pin adapters either.

That is very uncommon for a gtx 760.

Most are either 8+6 or 6+6.

I have a corsair 750w that has two 8 pin cpu connectors (for what reason i'm uncertain), is it at all possible that you have connected the wrong rail to the graphics card?

I checked the asus website and that card is indeed a 8pin only. The only other thing I can think of is maybe there isn't enough power on the pcie slot to make up for that 8pin connector only configuration.

You need a new PSU. According to the Hardware you listed, you are not supplying enough power. Use a PSU calculator to determine your wattage requirements. I am estimating that you are using at least 425+ watts without the Video Card. As a rule of thumb, try not to exceed 80% of the PSU's output capability. I would further suggest that you get a 650 watt PSU, minimum.

While that PSU is of low quality, I'm not sure it would keep you from getting a display at boot. The card is only idling at boot, not using much more power than a weak card would. But, the card requires a single 8 pin power connector. Do you have that on your Novatek or did you have to improvise.

Thinking of getting a new psu.

It already had two 6 +2 to make an eight which I used, and the card came with a two 6 to eight which I tried, to no success
