2600k@4.8. is it outdated yet?

just curious if the newer ivy bridge and haswell cpus are giving up a 15-20%+ performance increase(once overclocked of course) over a 2600k running at 4.8ghz (stable for 2 years now). room temp sometimes gets to about 82f(on 100f+ outdoor temp summer days) which pushes the cpu up to about 82c. but that is rare and usually room temp is around 59-65f and cpu usually stays at 75c max.

i thought i read somewhere that a sandy bridge @ 4.8ghz = ivy bridge @ 4.4ghz = haswell @ 4.0ghz. but i didnt know for sure if this is true.

IB and Haswell do not overclock as much as SB so you are unlikely to see more than a ~5% improvement over your 4.8GHz SB.

Most people who are happy with their SB overclocks skipped IB and will most likely skip Haswell.

It will likely take another 2-3 years for SB to genuinely start feeling outdated.

Hasfail blows. (Keep in mind if you see me with a Haswell chip in the near future, I only upgraded because I got a good deal) Keep the 2600K. It's too beast of a OCer to not keep. And who ever told you that, was off by about 200Mhz. Lol.

so your saying its more like SB@4.8=IB@4.6=HW@4.4

In general, the performance increase from Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge is 6%. From Ivy Bridge to Haswell it depends on who you ask; ranging from 6% - 10%. For argument sake l'll just use 8%.

That means on average Haswell is about 14.5% more powerful than Sandy Bridge. That in turn means a Haswell CPU running at almost 4.2GHz will be equal to a Sandy Bridge CPU running at 4.8GHz.
