I am a sixteen year old junior in high school. I am currently looking for a laptop that is 1) able to play high end games at a decent fps 2) portable(thinking of college here) and 3) sturdy and affordable(again, still thinking about college. My question is if the Alienware is truly worth my money, or if I need to go with a better alternative. My price range is preferably no more than $1600, though I can go slighty higher if need be. Thanks in advance for any responses!

I wouldn't recommend it, you pay a huge premium when you buy Alienware.

I would also look at the Sager line-up and see what you think. They are very well built, decently priced, and a little more discrete on the looks which would tend to make it less likely of someone trying to steal it from you at compared to some of the other gaming laptops.

The MSI GX60 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DT70G9G/ref=as_li_q... was a great suggestion and much better than getting an overpriced Alienware.

MSI was the other company I was looking at, do you know if the GE60 is just as good of a machine as the GX60? I would prefer to not have to lug around something as heavy as the GX, but that may be what I have to deal with.

Well, the GE60 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CU9GKTO/ref=as_li_q... would be about 2.5 lbs. lighter but not as powerful as the GX60. The GPU in the GX is far superior to the one in the GE. You will have to decide whether you want to sacrifice portability or power. If you are planning to play high end games then my suggestion would be to lug around something heavier. I would equate it to carrying around one more book with you on campus but only in weight. The sizes are pretty close to the same.

Okie dokie, thanks for your input!

The AW 14 has better cooling than the MSI and is probably better-built, but it's about as bulky as a high-end 15-inch laptop. In fact, no good options exist under fifteen inches.
