White Screen after login

My power supply failed and I ordered a new one. Switched it out and finally got power back! It boots up great, enter my log in and immediately goes to a white screen? :( I removed the motherboard battery as suggested on another board but that doesn't help. Any suggestions?

FWIW, I just got rid of some ransomware that did something similar except the white screen was followed shortly by a banner demanding money to release my machine. The virus goes by many names but the most common is the "FBI" virus.
