Hello, I recently made some hardware changes to my computer and have been having significant issues running a clean install on my new hard drive.

Some times BIOS was freezing, once bios had to reset itself with ASUS EZ FLASH automatically

When trying to install the OS at other times it completely freezes at the starting windows screen

Other times I get it to start installing and it has a BSOD (pfn list corrupt) another time i ran the check disk utlility in the advanced computer settings (in windows install) and it frooze in there.

I have absolutely no idea how to trouble shoot this, could REALLY use some help please.

Any other info/details you need from me lmk

Thank you

By "no change" I assume you mean the problem persists even after reversing the hardware change. I think the first thing I'd do is flash the BIOS.

Ive flashed the bios several times, even had a bios failure at one point where "asus ez flash" had to attempt to restore my bios

Something is terribly amiss during the early booting process

I would say contact ASUS but their customer support is historically deplorable. Maybe it's time for an upgrade.

Im considering that unfortunate reality, but im not even sure if its the motherboard yet.

The biggest thing that sucks, is i literally built my pc RIGHT when the new generation of pc components came out, but they were all crazy expensive so i have all old architecture stuff.

I have the p5qe motherboard with the lga 775 socket , Q9550 cpu, ddr2 ram etc

What I would REALLY like is if I could get a new motherboard that would future proof me, something new that works with ddr3 ram, but still had my lga 775 socket.

I mean my CPU is still damn solid and sells for 200$ + new

Not knowing your finances, I can only tell you what I would do. It sounds to me like a BIOS/MB problem. Personally, I wouldn't waste my energy on tech that old (no offense). There's no such thing as future proof. The closest you can come is to build the most powerful computer you can afford and to that end I think you should dump your 775. I know that isn't what you want to hear but it's what I would do. Basically, don't throw good money after bad.

Well how much would I have to spend on a new CPU to get something reasonably superior to a Q9550 ?

Like I feel like I would have to spend at least 150-200$ on a cpu to get something thats JUST as good as my Q9550

And thats in addition to new motherboard and ram

I dont mind spending money for an upgrade, but dropping almost a grand on a ps4/xbox 1 in 2~ months, man this sucks =(

Alright, found a solution (sorta)

I literally took EVERYTHING apart, cleaned all the hardware, changed any wires that I had extras of with new ones that I had laying around, cleaned anything else I could.

Flashed BIOS with jumpers, removed motherboard battery, put it all back together, flashed bios with most updated bios

Was able to install the SSD, have everything working in AHCI, no issues yet.

Extremely grateful that all is working now, done making any changes or opening up this thing until something dies for good.

Thanks for all the help

Well, I hate consoles so I would talk you out of that if I could. Good to hear it's running again.

Oh I flat out prefer my PC to a console anyday

But they have their benefits, I mean I LOVE being able to watch netflix/hulu/etc on my tv in hd anytime. And game developers focus on them more than the pc because of piracy

Plus im in my 20s, so more of my friends have consoles than pcs and I strongly prefer playing games with rl friends than matchmaking.

You & I are at opposite ends of the gaming spectrum. I'm 67 years old and play exclusively FPS in single player mode. A few years ago I was sure PC gaming was done so I decided I must train myself to use an Xbox 360. After many attempts I gave it away. It's just not possible to aim accurately and quickly with a 1/2" long stick. At least not for me. I tried "on line" gaming also but got my ass kicked so bad I quit that. You kids are just too good and I don't have enough time to get good enough to compete. I wish I could find a game I like as well as Half Life 2. I watched a walkthrough of " the last of us" and liked it so much I watched again.....twice. What a shame greed keeps everybody from enjoying something so great. Good luck.
