I have a brand new Lenovo G505 Laptop, it has two usb 3.0 on the left side. I recently bought an external hard drive enclosure with USB 3.0, which I posted the transfer rate was slow previously and someone helped me out and we pinned the problem at the hard drive possibly being bad. Now, I went to a friends house and he wanted me to transfer a 3 GB video file to a flash drive for him. Well it took around 20 minutes for it to copy. It was transferring between 2.30 MB/s and 4.80 MB/s, it would not go any higher. After it transferred he put it on his laptop which has usb 2.0 and it i'm thinking somethings not right with my usb 3.0 ports. Yes, they are USB 3.0, here's a link to the laptop I bought http://www.bestbuy.com/site/15.6%22+Laptop+-+4GB+Memory+-+500GB+Hard+Drive/9130065.p;jsessionid=142489AB4C6CB1F3ADE7AEEF742F6910.bbolsp-app02-118?id=1218990135826&skuId=9130065&st=lenovo%20g505&cp=1&lp=1. I've also tried changing to better performance under properties but it does the same speed. Also the flash drive was empty and my hard drive is a 500 GB sata III hard drive with over 200 GBs of free space. I've tried both ports and same speeds between 2.30MB/s and 4.80 MB/s. I've checked to make sure drivers were up to date and Windows 8 says they are. Any help would be appreciated.

fyi, bad link

check Lenovo's website for new drivers. There are several laptops where the drivers simply do not perform quite right out of the box.

Also a lot of data transfer depends upon what is being transferred rather than the hardware that it is being transferred between. For example, moving a single large video file or ISO from my SSD to my HDD moves at a blistering 250MB/s+. Same exact drives moving MP3s, pictures, and other small documents slows down to some 5-12MB/s. That is all moving between pretty new SATA3 HDDs and SSDs which is way faster than what can be expected going through extra controllers and out to an external USB3 device.

Not saying that your USB3 shouldn't run faster... but 500MB/s is not exactly a realistic expectation even though it can theoretically push it through.

Sorry about the bad link I've fixed it. I've gone to the site and the only drivers I can download are sound, video, software, wireless, ethernet, and track pad. There's no other drivers to download. I've checked under device manager and went to update drivers but it says it already has the most up to date driver. I'm not expecting 500 MB/s but I know something has to be wrong with the speeds I'm getting.
