Why does my old AMD beat my new intel 3570k.

I recently upgraded (or so i thought) from an AMD FX-6350 to intel's all so famous i5 3570k. Ive noticed a performance decrease of around 4fps in CPU intensive games. I figured all the hype from the intel fanboys meant it was better but it was actually a downgrade. My 6350 I managed to get up to 4.5Ghz in overclock. My 3570k is limited to 3.9Ghz at this point. I'm about to order a new motherboard with a Z77 chipset to get the i5 up to 4.5Ghz. Can anyone tell me if this will get it performing as well as my old 6350 or am i better getting an AM3 board and going back to AMD?

the intel should be faster than the AMD even at stock clocks, if you plan on getting the i5 up to 4.5 you need to make sure you have a good cooling solution. Your probably not seeing much of an improvement because your only running a GTX 660, your graphics card is probably maxing out before your CPU does, if you went with a stronger GPU you would notice the i5 pulling away from the AMD.
lol its your own ability to overclock that cpu that holding you back... just bump the cpu multi and the cpu volts to 4.5 and your pretty much done.
when both cpu's are running at identical clocks you will see the intel pull away but only slightly because there both pretty much in the same ballpark when it comes to performance... your also comparing a 6 threaded cpu to a 4 threaded 1. so no mate the intel cpu isnt worse because it uses less resources to do the same job as the amd cpu...
try a game like starcraft 2 which only uses 2 threads and you will see theres a performance gap between the 2.
but when you do a game like bf3 where the game can take advantage of more threads the playing field evens out.
the fact is that the first words out of your mouth contained intel fanboi's tells me your an amd 1... you need to get over that and buy performance not labels.

I'll be perfectly honest, I didn't do a clean install after changing hardware. I was waiting to do a clean install until I had all the hardware i'm going to stick with. I didn't know if it would cause performance issues or not. I compare games like Skyrim, conviction, splinter cell blacklist (which came with me new card) Crysis 3, and Hitman Absolution. As to upping the multiplier to overclock the i5, I was lucky enough to receive a faulty Asus board with a glitch in the bios and the multiplier can not be changed in bios. It can't go higher than default. People who have had this issue have had to buy a new bios chip off e-bay but seeing as i'm still in the return period, just gonna get a whole new board. The board i have now is the Asus P8B75-V. Just wondering if I should clean install now or wait for the new board.

Yeah, I returned the 660 ti and got the 670 for not much of a difference in price. It came this morning and I'll be honest, i'm happy with the framerates at this point but there's still not a huge jump in CPU reliant games; it is performing very well though none the less. I was just surprised to see the 3570k perform slightly worse than the 6350 when paired with the same GPU...hmm. I guess after my new mobo and fresh format we'll see where we stand with a 3570k and the 670 Overlocked...Thanks for the help guys. :)
