I just bought and installed this heat sink onto my build. Aerocool Mechatron Mid tower w/ 3 200mm fans and 1 120 mm fan on the back. All fans are high performance fans. I have the side and front fans(200mm) blowing air in and the top(200mm) and back (120mm) blowing out. Everything seems just fine but I can not get the temps below 100 degrees Fahrenheit. I put the fan on wrong and had to turn it around 3 times to get it to fit on right. When putting it back together in my head I was thinking that if I continued and did not reapply paste that I was not going to get the temps that I wanted. Was I correct or is the Arctic Freezer 13 just not enough to get my I7 960 below 100 degrees Fahrenheit? No overclock on the cpu at all and memory set to 1333mhz (not enough of a overclock to add more heat to the cpu by what I was told).

Solution
100F is not bad. If you were getting up to 100C, you need to worry.

My old i7 940 stayed around 42C which figures to 107.6F. Those chips and chipsets are made to stand really high temps.
My X58 (the i7 940) chipset worried me at first because it varied around 80C even at idle. I took it apart and found that most of the thermal paste missed the chipset and was down on the board. I cleaned it all up and applied thermal paste and the temps went down to the low 40C's. About the same as the CPU.

At idle my temps are @ 115 Fahrenheit, under load it gets to 135 Fahrenheit. So let me get this straight, I have to reapply the MX4 thermal paste? Would it matter if I replaced the MX4 w/ AS5 or would I be in best interest for me to use the MX4 that they did?

Arctic Freezer 13 CO, packaged materials. I got another one or you I have all these Lego games on my desktop that my son loves to play. The only problem I am seeing is the constant skipping and lagging in the game. My build should be able to handle all of them without a problem and I have been trying to figure out why these games are having these issues. I am also wondering if there is a website that I can go too that would have a update to my games. I have all the Indiana Batman Harry Potter Star Wars Lego games. Guys please help me I have tried everything. Disabling certain features on video reducing the resolution and still no fix.

That could be a memory and/or BIOS problem. Or a graphics card problem. Did you set the BIOS to optimized defaults? Does all of your memory show up and at the advertized speed, at least? What memory do you have anyways? And what are you using for graphics?

I have 24 Gb of Kingston HyperX Blu ram running @1333mhz, they are advertised as 1600mhz ram. My video cards are 2 1gb MSI GTX 560 TI Graphics cards in SLI. My CPU is I7 960 and not overclocking it. The video cards have copper shims on the memory to try and obtain a lower temperature. The model of the Video Cards are Twin Frozr so I have been told that I can not have a heat issue. No they do not show up @ advertised speeds but if I want to I could set them too 1600 MHz but I do not feel comfortable doing so due to CPU cooler being what it is and the possibility of the extra stress it would put on the CPU. Memory useable is 16 gb out of the 24gb(Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit). Please inform me if you see a issue that needs to be resolved. What could be the possible problem that is happening in BIOS?

MSI X58A-GD45 , I am setting the 1333mhz timings, the MB starts @ 1066mhz. I can set the timmings to 1600mhz in bios.

Try 9-9-9-27 for your timings. Even for the 1333MHz, preferably the 1600MHZ. If that setting is not stable, try 10-10-10-27.

10-10-10-30 if still not stable.

If still not stable, bump up the memory voltage slightly. + as high as .75V higher. No more should be needed.

And don't forget that you have triple channel hyperthreading so you have to do the same for all three threads.

How many sticks of memory? I should have asked earlier if you had 4GB or 8GB sticks?

Edit:
Looking up your MB I guess you have 4GB sticks. At the Kingston website the hyperx blu is not listed as being compatible to the X58 chipset. Every chipset since is listed though.

At the MSI web site, there is a BIOS update that says it improves memory compatibility. Here's the link:
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/X58A-GD45.html#/?div=BIOS

Check and see what BIOS you have and I would update to the newest BIOS if your MB does not already have that version.

So you are saying that the memory not being listed on MSI capability chart for that motherboard might be the issue? Yes it is 6x 4 gb sticks.

Your memory is not listed as being compatible with X58 chipsets. Only the newer chipsets are listed. I would think that your memory should be OK but I'm just saying that Kingston does not list X58 as compatible.

Here is the compatibility list from Kingston in PDF format:
http://media.kingston.com/pdfs/HyperX_Blu_US.pdf

No X58 listed. I bet a BIOS update will help if you cannot get a stable configuration. That is if your BIOS isn't already up to date.

This is one reason I never mess with MSI boards. They seem to have compatibility problems among a lot of others, a lot. In the future, stick with asus, gigabyte or asrock. You'll probably have less problems. Seems to me that too many people have nightmares with msi boards, trying to get them working correctly.

Try the timing settings that I mentioned above. See if they help. If not check your BIOS and update if need, then go thru the timings again. Then You should set the board the optimized defaults and ythen set the timings and whatever else needs setting.

Have you set optimized defaults yet?

I already have the latest BIOS update and still having that problem with the game. I can run the new SimCity on the same system without any issues. That is why I am confused on what it could possibly be that is causing this issue with these games.
