I have optiplex 740 sff.
I want to upgrade it
Will phenome x4 9550 work on this
Or any phenom II processor
Bios is updated

Apparently yes.

Though I'd personally not spend any money until it is fully proven.

IMHO I wouldn't put anything into upgrading an Optiplex, they have crap cooling and tend to kill PSUs and other hardware in short order on stock hardware. I couldn't even tell you how many of these I've seen die in the various places I've worked at.

ddpruitt has a point.
I switched all my friends company computers (10k) to lenovo or full custom builds.

I'd also check to ensure your powersupply can handle the added wattage with the cpu.
