Running with windows 8 checking in device manager after ensuring that i had the latest gigabit driver the exclamation mark for Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection appears with...

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful.

I have made sure that I have the latest updates, have checked for any updates on intel side, have googled and tried various supposed fixes with no luck, can I just safely disable and ignore it? Or does anybody else have any suggestions?

I own a P8Z77-I DELUXE with Intel(R) 82579V.

I don't have an answer for you, but would like to report that Intel's generic driver works fine in Windows 7, but without PROSet, which caused serious problems on my machine (I didn't use PROSet, don't even know how to) when I had ASUS's latest driver bundled with it.

When the bug sets in, the machine will freeze momentarily after any IO input operation performed by the adapter -- an HTTP response is enough -- or any UAC prompt and the mouse pointer glitches. It was resolved after I uninstalled ASUS's bundle.

Now I realize it is possible to install just the driver without PROSet, just as with Intel's bundle. I didn't try ASUS's driver without PROSet (I was afraid it was also the problem), but it would be reasonable to assume it works fine as long as PROSet is absent.
