So i bought a Sapphire AMD HD7750 1GB DDR5 WILL THIS WORK WITH 300W?

My pc is HP G5200UK-M
RAM: 3Gb
Processor AMD Athlon II x2 220

I will take out DVD Drive to save power!!

Solution
As long as the power supply is decent(can you see how many amps it has on its 12 volt rail or rails), It will not be an issue at all.

The 7750 does not even need extra power. It will have a hard time even using 50 watts on its own.

I just found this info out on the HP website: HP D3006A0 rev 05, 300w +12v=19A. Seeing that the CPU in this computer is a low powered processor and does not hog up power on the line, you should have no problems with this card in your computer.

Agreed.

I have a 300(the one in the image above) watt running a 650 ti(take more power) with an i5 750(takes a bit more power as well) without issues.

I do have to question this too, I can see that system "running" on a PSU like that, but it would be putting a lot of strain on it during gaming. Maybe if the second 12V rail was dedicated to GPU only, then I could understand that maybe. 300W is still very VERY sketchy with a GTX 650 though.

The system has run fine for over 3 years this way. Careful part selection has everything to do with it :)

I got the 650 ti to lower power consumption vs the 5770 the system was built with.

ITX board + undervolting the cpu to cut down on power consumption as much as I could helps.

With the 5770, I was unable to pull over 180 watts(Just Cause 2 + Prime95 under 150 without prime95) at the wall according to my APC UPS.

For a quick test I just ran Guild Wars 2 with Prime95 eating most of the leftover cpu power. I can not make prime use ALL cores or the video card will become bottle-necked

Note the peak power use in hwmon. Click for full image.

Specs for that system.
H55n USB3 board
i5 750 undervolted (Gemini S cooler and 1200 rpm Globe fan)
GTX 650 ti(MSI Cyclone II model)
3TB WDC Red 3.5 inch
1TB WDC Blue 2.5 inch
128 Gigabyte M4 2.5 inch
Slot load slim optical drive(laptop drive).
2 x 4gigabyte corsair memory(rated for 1.65 volts running @ 1.35)
All in a SilverStone SG05 case.

This does NOT mean I recommend other users run lower wattage power supplies on systems. If I kill it one day(3 years thanks to careful part selection) from this. I take all the blame.

Ahhh, I did not know that you undervolted the CPU, that makes more sense. Nice little benchmark you got set up there and I appreciate the picture. Being in an ITX Case, the undervoltage is a good idea to keep power and heat down. I have to say, I am impressed. Nice setup by the way, mine on the other hand, probably easily doubles the power consumption of that PC. (see sig)

Yeah, My "gaming"(I was doing a good bit of gaming on the other system because many games get by with lower system specs.) system takes more power for sure. I think it idles about 2x the other system for sure(70-80 watt area).

Funny thing about it is that it is system before it(I7 920 @ 3.5 with 3-4 HDDs) idled at 150 watts. Things get better all the time.

Are you sure that is for my PC?

Yes, the "HP D3006A0 rev 05" is the model of the PSU inside your PC.

I'm worried about the power supply blowing up or something, will putting this graphics card reduce the life of my psu??

Most power supplies will simply shut down if they can not provide enough clean power to a system. I do not think HP goes soo cheap on a power supply that it would blow up(as that would be bad for them as well).

It is also important to know that the video card and cpu do not draw max power at all times. Unless the system is always gaming, the power supply should be at a rather low load most of the time as well.

My media center typing this as we speak is taking 30-40 watts of power. Even if my under volting the cpu has pushed it down very far, My video card still needs more power than yours and I have not made it over 171 watts.

Reviews seem to place your card in the mid 40's for power consumption. This is very friendly to lower wattage power supplies.
