I asked a similar question before when I was in a hypothetical build stage. Fiance's computer is now on life support and I need to build an HPTC so I can give her my computer.

Requirements:
Ability to surf web and play video perfectly from Hulu, Netflix, DIY Network, HGTV Network
Play ripped DVD files
Playback needs to be on 55" 1080P TV via HDMI.

Wants:
Able to fit my Hauppauge TV tuner by PCI-e x1. This is a full-size card, but I own a dremel ;).

Shopping List
Case: SILVERSTONE Black Aluminum skin reinforced plastic front panel, 0.8mm SECC body MILO Series ML03B Micro ATX Media Center / HTPC Case

Mobo: ASUS H61M-PLUS LGA 1155 Intel H61(B3) HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

CPU: Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processor G860 3.0 GHz 3 MB Cache LGA 1155 - BX80623G860

OS: Windows 7 Professional OEM

PSU and fans harvested from old case.

Concern: Any way to still use Windows without buying a new license if I upgrade to a different motherboard in the future?

Thank you,

Solution
Were you planning on cutting the case or the tv card with that dremel?
As an alternative to either why not use a Silverstone GD 05 , which will take a full height card and has better cooling

No need for 7 pro . It doesnt have features that will help you watch videos . Use Home 64 bit .
Win 8 has a different license that lets you swap it to a new computer . But you'd also have to buy the upgrade to get media center working since its not included by default . Again just use the regular version , and make sure its 64 bit

Thank you for the Windows suggestion. Despite the limitations, I much prefer the looks of the other case. As I do not watch live TV much, and have other options for when I do, I think I'll just forgo my Hauppauge card.

Other than that, the build works?
