After playing some Kerbal Space Program, I checked on my gpu temperatures and it was at 84 degrees celsius. The card is a 2009 ATI XFX Radeon HD 4890. Are the temps too high for the card?

I owned probably that exact card when it came out, and they do run very very hot, but they are fast. For that card, that is a little warm, but still within limits. What kind of case do you have? Air current direction? Any cables or addon cards that could be blocking the intake fan from working properly?

Someone i know had 2 non working gateway GT5628, and he said i can keep one if i can fix them both. The one i kept had the graphics card in it. The case itself doesnt have great airflow. There is one exhaust fan. Also, there is a ribbon cable connecting to the disc drive right infront of the fan. I wouldve moved it but there was no way to put the ribbon cable around the card or under the mb. It either wouldnt move that way or wouldnt reach.

The combination of the low airflow and the ribbon cable could easily be the cause, I would see if you can get a SATA ODD and longer SATA cables to give it some breathing room if you want to drop those temps a bit. Also do as mauller07 said, that should help too.
