I just finished building my new pc, and I have no idea how or where to get an operating system for it. I would like to get Windows 8, but I understand that I need a system builder for a PC with no OS. I do plan on upgrading the PC in the future, so I don't think an OEM will work. What do I do?

From the Newegg page on Windows 8:
"There are two types of licenses for the OEM/System Builder Windows 8 product:
1. OEM
2. Personal Use

The product is the same for both, but upon installation, one of the two license must be accepted, depending on the use. The OEM license allows the OEM to resell the PC. The Personal Use license is for individuals who are building (and...

You basically can choose between the OEM version or the Retail version. The retail version will let you install multiple times, just for only one computer at a time. The OEM version would be limited to that specific motherboard only. (I recommend full system backups/cloning so that a drive failure doesn't take your license with it)

You can also just download a Windows 8 ISO and pay after you have it installed. (actually not sure if you are buying an OEM copy or a retail copy in that case)

Personal Use gets you support from Microsoft, OEM does not.

From Microsoft:
Personal Use license:http://www.microsoft.com/OEM/en/licensing/sblicensing/Pages/personal-use-license.aspx#fbid=tuvT-qPXJq0

OEM license:

Excellent! One last question. Is Windows 8 compatible with the mobo I have listed here?

Hi

I think there is still confusion about the different license for OEM System builder Windows XP, Vista & 7
and OEM System builder Windows 8

With 8 the same product has two licenses one for a System Builder who sells PC with Windows 8 pre installed

the other for a home builder who does not sell his PC then the OEM Windows 8 is Transferable to different PC's provided it is installed on only one PC at a time
(this effectively the same as a retail / upgrade versions of previous versions)

Other difference contains only DVD for 32 or 64 bit versions while retail / upgrade include 32 & 64 bit DVD
