So i just installed my Samsung 840,and done a fresh install of WIN7.Im pretty sure i got my bios right, when the system starts i now get some info pop up about the ACHI protocol(which obv i never had before) and the drive boots up to win7 no problems. But samsungs software says AHCI mode is deactivated and its unable to detect the Sata interface details.

Whats goin on here, did i mess up the initial driver install?

Im running it through Sata2 as its all my mobo has,it deffo works,i boot to desktop and am able to launch stuff in 15 seconds. Is the software just being tempremental,or is my config wrong and hurting performance

Also ui know the drive would benefit from sata3 over sata2 and that i will not get the full potential of the drive atm.

Look under Device Manager --> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
Do you see ANY AHCI controller at all, if there is non, then you do not have AHCI active.

and you need to load AHCI drivers, there are plenty of such threads in here

You're ok. Amd sata is the ahci mode of the port and i'm pretty sure amd chipset sata ports in ahci mode would default to using the msahci drivers until you loaded the chipset drivers after windows had installed.

If you run as-ssd it will list the driver being used in the top left corner
msahci - is microsoft and work very well.
amdsata - is amd

i'm not sure AMD SATA is AHCI, you have to dig through your MB's to see whether it is AHCI or not.

But i think, if AMD SATA is AHCI, then Samsungs Software would not says AHCI mode is deactivated

I guess some digging for you to do :)
