So I just installed a new CPU, and the PC is on, but I can't get my monitor to work. I had the same problem when I installed a graphics card, but it eventually just started working, not sure how though. Anyway just wondering if anyone can help.
It should be in the bios unless the brand of motherboard has an auto setting. Here is a video showing how to diable onboard video so you can see where the setting is in the bios to change it back.
Sorry about that, I have a hp slimline s5514y with a radeon 6670 and a 350W PSU and I just installed an amd phenom ii x4 945 (95W).
Edit: the 6670 is a sapphire low profile and the PSU is a sea sonic.
With those slim line cases you have to be careful with what you get for components because the power supply is limited and currently you have a 350w PSU. The video card is the biggest draw followed by the CPU so you will have to start adding up what's being used for watts. If you get no video then take the card out and see if the intergrated video works.
The Sapphire 6670 calls for a 400w PSU minimum to be in the computer.
Your problems may be that your power supply is too low. (350w) I believe that the slim line case takes a TFX power supply and I have seen 400w but currently Newegg doesn't have one and I took a look at Amazon and they do list one for $50.
CMOS reset will do a reset of your bios. Read your motherboard manual to find out where the jumper is located and how to perform the reset for your particular model. If you cannot find either, unplug the machine and remove the battery for a couple minutes then put it back in.
What happens when you push the start button with the video card out and the monitor cable connected to the onboard video connector. Did you change the setting in the bios for the integrated video to be the primary source for display ?
